DT 13.2 Blogging Non-School-Related Photos

My friend Zia asked me to assist him in shooting Fatima & Saqib's Wedding. I had a blast. It was so much fun!

During the break I had late dinner at Moxies with my two friends Jeff and Jules.

I was asked by my friend Nora to take some shots of her kids for a Christmas Card. Every time I had my camera pointed at them they had a million dollar smile on. They were so cute and fun to photograph.

On new years I had dinner at Fazzo and then attended a house party. Here is a picture of a happy couple kissing shortly after the new years countdown.

Yup, all those gifts were for the kids.

This is my cousin and her adorable dog Toby. He absolutely loved the camera.

This is my co-worker Kirsten. We are at our annual Christmas lunch at Joeys restaurant.

I should really stop doing drive by shootings. I couldn't help it. I couldn't stop admiring the blue sky.

I had lunch with a friend at Salsbury house. As we were walking out we came across this machine. She wanted to play it and she won.

My co-workers wife baked me a delicious batch of cookies.

It was one of my best friends birthday during the Christmas break. We went to the keg for dinner.

AT 11.2 Karsh

George Enesco 1954
http://artsearch.nga.gov.au/Detail-LRG.cfm?IRN=49414&View=LRG

I slowly went through the entire exhibit and there was one image that I couldn’t get out of my mind. It was the image of George Enesco.

There is a lot going on in this photo yet it’s not too cluttered or overwhelming. The subject is in the middle, which breaks the rule of thirds, yet it still works and makes the image visually appealing. The background compliments the subject and acts like a natural framing. The placement of his hands implies that he is multi talented at what he does. The expression on his face also shows that he loves what he does.

There are plenty of dark and light tones in the image. Looks like there would have been dodging and burning used. The side lighting added a lot of texture and depth, which helped enhance the character in his face. Although it looks like there was multiple lighting situations used in the photo, the overall dim lighting adds an intimate mood.

Karsh really did an amazing job in caputuring this photo!

Colour Block

Colours are based on peoples experiences and feelings. We all see colours in different ways. For example my friend Jules sees

Orange as:
"This orange color gives me a warm and fuzzy sentiment."

Magenta as:
"It reminds me of a heroism and sacrifice."

Yellow as:
"I feel dizzy with excited when I look at this photo."

Blue as:
"This color evokes a sense of freedom and independence. It gives me a feeling that I can do anything or be anyone I want."

Complimentary Colour (Red/Green) as:
"Reminds me of my childhood because these are Christmas colors. It also reminds me of how I’m broke at the end of the year."

Similarity Colour (Blue/Yellow) as:
"It reminds me of spring because yellow represents growth and blue represents time."

It's interesting to see how different my friend's perspective on the following photos as apposed to mine. For example Jules sees the colour orange as a warm emotion but I saw it as a refreshing feeling.

CI Field Trip 1

Today we went to the zoo for our field trip. It was very relaxing and overall a lot of fun. Too bad it rained most of the afternoon. Glad I was dressed for the weather.

Analogue Techniques - 6.2 Photographic Hero

The photographer that I choose is Sally Turner Manger, famously known as Sally Mann. She was born on May 1, 1951. Sally Mann has used her 5x7 view camera to capture in fine detail, among other subjects, images of her children as they mimic and act out social and familial roles in the lush landscape of their rural Virginia home. Sallys work is best known for photographing her children in black & white film. There are no boundaries and her work is very controversial. Examples are nude photos of her kids. She believes that her photos are "natural through the eyes of a mother."

Untitled, from the Elton John AIDS Foundation Photography Portfolio I

This photo caught my eye right away. It is eerie and gives a sense of loneliness, mystery and fantasy. The trees frame the top of the photo while the structure and pillars frame the rest of the photo. The drive way leads your eye through the image which provides depth to the picture. This photo makes you wonder what is up ahead. The dark edges on the corners gives the viewer a focal point.

Emmett's Bloody Nose, 1985

This is photo is well composed because the photo follows the Rule of Thirds by having the body located beside each other which also creates balance. The lighting position makes the photo more interesting. It acts like a spot light on the boy with a bleeding nose, which is also the focal point of the image. The importance of this photograph is that it tells a story.

Candy Cigarette

There are a few things happening in this picture the path in background leads your eye to the main subject. There is a balance in this photo with the man on the ladder and the other young girl standing off to the side. The sky on the top right corner adds some framing.

Composition at Home

I really enjoyed this assignment. It really made me open my eyes and view normal objects in a different way. It was a bit challenging due to the low lighting in my home. But overall I'm happy with the way the photos turned out.

Growing...

Working the subject... 100 creative ways

This was a really challenging assignment for me... I decided to set up my objects in the backyard on the pick nick table. (I thought the best light would be outside) After about 30 shoots in I started to panic. My mind went blank and I just couldn't think of any other ways I could photograph these objects. I then took a deep breath and stared at the objects for about five minutes and then continued to shoot some more. When I was done I quickly went back to school to upload the photos. I was so glad to be done!

DT 2.1 Lines

I really enjoyed this lines assignment! Finding lines to shoot wasn’t really a challenge for me because I was able to spot them easily. The challenging part for me was composing the photos to look visually appealing. I had to take my time and actually look at the lines from different angles before I shot the images.

Digital Techniques - In class assignment

My favorite genres of photography are portrait, photojournalistic, landscape, and commercial.

I hope to learn more about the commercial aspect of photography because it's something that I've always been interested in and it's a topic that I'm lacking knowledge in.

During the summer time I shot a wedding. My best photography-related memory was seeing the reaction on the brides face when she flipped through her album.
